3 Ductless Air Conditioning Problems to Watch Out for This Summer

Summer is the most stressful time of year for ductless air conditioners, as people use them on a daily basis to keep cool. This makes problems more likely to crop up, which means you have to be extra vigilant to make sure that your system doesn’t suffer damage. There are a wide variety of problems that could afflict your air conditioner, but some are more common than others. Let’s take a look at 3 of the more common air conditioning problems you’re likely to run into this summer.

Ice

Ice on your ductless air conditioner may seem like a sign that it’s working properly, but nothing could be further from the truth. If your air conditioner has ice on it, it means that the evaporator coil has frozen over. This could be because of low refrigerant in the system, or a clogged air filter. Regardless of the cause, if the ice is not removed it can warp the coil and eventually cause a complete system breakdown.

Air Handler Issues

The air handler is the part of the ductless air conditioner that moves air around the room. It is put under a great deal of stress during operation, and as a result must be fitted with lubricated bearings to help it cope. If those bearings wear out and are not replaced, the air handler motor will burn out.

Refrigerant Leaks

The refrigerant in an air conditioner is not supposed to be consumed by the system. Instead, it is recycled during operation. A leak in the refrigerant line will drain the system of the refrigerant it needs to operate, causing a decline in output and an eventual breakdown of the system.
