Signs That You Need a New Water Heater

Water heaters are built to last a really long time. That doesn’t make them invincible, however. Eventually, the years of wear and tear will catch up with your system and it will die on you. You probably want to be able to tell when your water heater is reaching the end of its life, so that you won’t have a long lapse in hot water supply while you look for a new system. Read on to find out more about when you need to install a new water heater.

Loss of Output

If you put enough demand on a water heater, for a long enough period of time, you’re going to exhaust it at some point. However, if your water heater is unable to cope with even a moderate amount of demand it may be because the system is worn out. The cumulative wear and tear on an old water heater will eventually cause it to decline to the point where it can no longer provide enough hot water. At that point, you need to replace it.

Repair Issues

Water heaters don’t normally need lots of repairs, but the older they get the more they’re going to need. As a water heater gets towards the end of its life, various parts of the system will start to break down. If you need to repair your water heater multiple times a year, it’s time to replace it.

Age

Water heaters are typically manufactured to last around 15-20 years. Past that point, they tend to wear out pretty fast. If your water heater is older than two decades, ask a professional if you need to install a new one.
