Troubleshoot Your Garbage Disposal Problems
- Should your Garbage Disposal makes a loud whirring noise or stops and sounds as if the motor is still running, it has probably jammed. Turn it off and wait a few minutes, then on the bottom of the disposal you should firmly press the reset button. (If the disposal does not have a reset button it should reset itself automatically)
- Should your machine still not to be functioning correctly, you should check to see if the disposal is designed to be unjammed from the bottom. If the disposal was engineered this way check the bottom and see if it may have a small socket for an Allen wrench which will allow you to turn the turn the flywheel. -If your machine has neither try taking a broom handle at an angle against the blade inside the disposal and attempt to work the blade back and forth and see if this frees the jam until the jam dislodges. You should then press the reset button.
- To cure a clog, disassemble the trap and use a snake. We don't recommend you try this. Give your Magnolia professionally trained technician a call for service or fill out our schedule for service form.
- If you have water notice water that may be dripping from the unit it could indicate that one or more seals could be worn. These should be replaced with new seals. All of our plumbing service trucks are completely outfitted with a full inventory of spare parts.
To make certain you take the best quality care of your garbage disposal you should run cold water when using the unit we recommend for a minute after the food in the unit appears to be disposed of.
- Whatever you do you should never place rubber, glass or metal down your disposal.
- Not all garbage disposals are the same. If you can't find a solution here we recommend that you should consult the owner's manual or arrange a service visit from a Magnolia Technician!
